Over the 18 months of his contract, pensioner Bryn will save an incredible £680, according to the latest newsletter.

Bryn wrote: "Following Martin's advice to haggle, I rang Virgin. Now saving £680 over the 18-month contract.

"It all helps when you're a pensioner. Thanks."

Bryn's total saving is almost £38 each month - a pretty penny regardless of your financial situation.

The Martin Lewis-founded website who negotiated their price down made savings.

And even if you're not a Virgin Media customer, haggling can be your best friend if you want to save on your broadband and TV package.

Even if you fail, what's the harm in trying?

Consumer champion Helen Dewdney told The Sun last month:  “Usually, if you threaten to leave a company you’ll get communication with an offer.

"However, you can get even better if you negotiate.

"Ask for what the best they can offer is and if you develop a good rapport, try haggling further with another suggestion.

"Usually, they will offer set packages but they may be able to throw in a product such as a Wi-Fi booster.”

Another Virgin Media customer recently got £264 a year knocked off their bill just by asking for a discount.
