Greggs fans furious as it hikes price of popular menu item

GREGGS fans have been left disappointed after the bakery chain raised the price of a sausage roll by 5p.

The pastry price hike is part of a plan by Greggs to raise charges by 5 to 10% across the entire menu.

Sausage rolls are the most popular item hit by the hike

Sausage rolls and their vegan counterparts have gone up in price from £1 to £1.05.

Greggs said the move was a “last resort”, but regulars at the UK’s biggest bakery chain are still unimpressed.

Tom Yorks tweeted: “The biggest crime I’ve seen this year is Greggs increasing the price of a sausage roll from £1 to £1.05.”

And @stump_yo added: “Oh so the price of a Greggs vegan sausage roll has gone up but my wages haven’t?

“F*** this.”

The Sun has asked Greggs which other items will go up in price and by how much – we’ll update the story when we hear back.

But Greggs has said the price rises will come into effect across the country.

A company spokesperson told : “Ingredients and labour costs have been rising and Greggs is not immune from that.

“The company does absorb some of the cost but has put up prices by about 5-10 pence across the range.”

And despite similar price rises in 2020 and 2018, the spokesperson said Greggs remains “good value”.

Brits are set to spend more on supermarket essentials as the prices of beef, crisps, milk and eggs are all set to rise.

Rocketing inflation could also see families paying thousands more just to get by, with price hikes affecting travel and retail.
