Eight cheap Christmas craft ideas – from foraging for nature’s freebies to deals on creative kits for children
GETTING crafty is a great way to keep the family entertained over the Christmas holidays without spending a fortune.
I love taking a winter walk and collecting free materials, courtesy of Mother Nature, such as foliage and pine cones.
Plus I’ve got lots more tricks to save money on creative kits and art supplies.
GO FORAGE: Greenery such as holly and ivy are perfect for making garlands to hang over the mantlepiece or to create an attractive centrepiece for the dinner table.
LET US SPRAY: Branches spray-painted in silver, gold or white look stunning draped in fairy lights. Get more nature-based decorating inspiration from TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest.
ZEST DRESSED: Dried orange slices are a colourful addition to your garland. Slice the fruit into thin rounds and lay these out on a baking tray lined with parchment. Cook for 45 minutes at 140C and leave to cool.
CLOVE IT: Make an Elizabethan-style pomander, or perfumed ball, by piercing the skin of an orange with a toothpick and pressing in neat rows of cloves.
KITTED OUT: Hobbycraft has a three-for-two deal on kids’ craft sets online and in stores, including Galt Mega Mosaics for £10, Pressed Flower Art for £14 and So Bomb DIY Aroma Bath Bomb Factory for £22, plus many more options.
