More festive fears for Brits as turkey prices rise by a third compared to 12 months ago
TURKEYS cost up to a third more than a year ago, stats show.
Fresh birds are 33.3 per cent more at Tesco, from £22.47 to £29.96.
And 40 per cent of 113 fresh or frozen turkey products in major supermarkets cost more this year than last year, magazine The Grocer found.
Waitrose’s Essential frozen large turkey is up 27.5 per cent and a fresh breast crown is nine per cent more expensive.
Asda frozen turkey products rose by 16.7 per cent. Discounters Iceland, Aldi and Lidl also increased prices.
Half of cost increases were for crowns. Turkey producers have been hit by higher costs and labour shortages this year.
