US giant Popeyes reveals location of first UK restaurant – and it’s opening in November
US fried chicken giant Popeyes has revealed the location of its first UK restaurant, which will open in November.
The fast food chain will launch a site in London this autumn and has plans to announce further UK restaurant openings soon.
Popeyes' first UK opening will be in Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London on the site of a former KFC.
The menu and price details are yet to be confirmed, but Popeyes said its chicken sandwich will definitely be available.
Popeyes' US menu includes a 16-piece chicken family meal, nuggets, tenders and popcorn shrimp.
All of the chicken at its UK stores will be locally sourced and marinated for 12 hours in Louisiana seasonings.
Fried chicken fans should keep a look out for further announcements as the KFC rival said it will reveal details of other UK openings "imminently".
In March, the company said it plans to open 350 UK restaurants over the next 10 years.
The brand, which was founded in New Orleans in 1972, already has 3,400 restaurants in 25 countries.
Popeyes' UK boss Tom Crowley said: “It’s fantastic to be opening our first UK location, following the months of anticipation and buzz that the news of our arrival generated."
He added: "We’re looking forward to unveiling our next sites in due course, and revealing more about our expansion into new locations in 2022 and beyond.”
Another popular American chain has launched in the UK this year.
Wendy's opened a branch in Reading in June, and will also have sites in Stratford and Oxford.
Other fast food chains that might be more familiar to Brits have been revamping their menus, like McDonald's new vegan burger.
High street baker Greggs also added a new plant-based product to its offering when it launched a vegan version of its sausage, cheese and bean bake.
