Some shops including Argos and Asda have already discounted their toy ranges - we've got the full details below.

We've also predicted when toy shops and supermarkets could launch their sales this year, based on last year's dates.

As these are predictions the actual launch date could be different, so make sure you keep your eye out for official announcements.

It's always best to compare prices online before you part with your cash, as just because something's in the sale it might not necesarily be the best value.

And remember, unless you were already planning to make a purchase before the discount, you're not actually saving any money.

Aldi

Aldi often launches a range of toys as a Specialbuy in the run up to Christmas.

Last year its Kevin the Carrot soft toy was so popular that the supermarket introduced a digital queuing system.

It's not clear when this years' toy offering will launch but in 2020 the Kevin the Carrot range went on sale on November 15.

Argos

Argos has kicked off the festive season with a two for £15 toy offer which is .

The cheapest toys available are £8, so purchasing two of these would give you a saving of £1.

Meanwhile, the most expensive toy in the sale is £15, meaning shoppers can get a free toy if they add a second to their basket.

There's over 300 toys included in the deal, including branded characters like Pepper Pig and Barbie and puzzles and inflatable outdoor games.

Last minute shoppers might be able to snap up a bargain closer to the big day.

The retailer held a sale from December 20 last year, offering up to 75% off all product ranges including toys.

Asda

Asda has already launched its big rollback toy sale to help parents bag a bargain ahead of Christmas.

The deals on offer include almost £6 off a Star Wars The Mandalorian plush figure, making it £25.

There's also £5 off a light up scooter, which has been reduced from £25 to £20.

The  is available in-store and online, and 150 products are currently listed for sale on Asda's website.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's usually offers up to 50% off toys in its month-long annual Christmas toy sale.

Last year the supermarket slashed prices from October 14, meaning it could launch the sale at around the same time this year - probably Wednesday, October 13.

If you can't wait until then, it's currently offering a two for £15 deal on selected toys.

Morrisons

Morrisons holds a popular buy one get one free toy event once a year, usually on the second Wednesday in October.

In 2020 it launched on 14 October, and could start on 13 October this year.

The supermarket allows customers to choose one toy and get the second, cheaper, item for free.

Last year it ran until November 25 and was only available in stores, not online.

Some of the biggest savings included a Hot Wheels RC Monster Truck, which was reduced from £50 to £25, and a Tefal play kitchen, which was £30 down from £60.

Tesco

Last year’s sale started on Monday, September 28, meaning it could launch again over the next couple of weeks.

If it were to launch on the final Monday of September again, it would begin on September 27.

In 2020, the Tesco toy sale offered up to 50% discounts and ran until Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Last time Tesco had a toy sale - at Easter - discounts were available both online and in stores.

Customers had to be a Clubcard member in order to get the cash off, and that could be the case with the Christmas sale.

Tesco Clubcard customers get money off automatically if they’re ordering online.

If you’re shopping in store, hand over your Clubcard or fob at the checkout so the discount can be applied at the till.

Smyths

This toy shop chain usually offers three opportunities to bag a bargain in the run up to Christmas.

It holds a sale or voucher day in September, October and November.

Money Saving Central predicts that there could be a money-off voucher day on September 21.

It said there could be a sale from October 21, as well as a Black Friday event in November.

Toy prices are expected to rise this Christmas due to problems with shipping from China, parents have been warned.
