How do I use the McDonald’s app?

Plus how to use the app to get freebies

MCDONALD'S fans don't have to wait in a queue in one of the chain's restaurants to get their fast food fix.

They can instead use the McDonald's app to order food ahead of time ready to pick up at a drive-thru or to be delivered to their table.

This means you can just wait in one of the click-and-serve bays for it to be delivered to you or collect your order directly from the counter.

And when you turn up, all you need to do is share the generated code from the app for a member of staff to scan and verify.

But the benefits of downloading the McDonald's app don't stop there, as customers are also able to order food directly to their homes.

All you need to do is choose your food, place your order and wait for a delivery driver to arrive.

McDonald's has partnered with Uber Eats and Just Eat for McDelivery, so someone from those apps provides the delivery service to your address.

The handy app is also a good way to make sure you don't miss out on any of the latest deals as there is a whole tab dedicated to discounts.

The app has several features that will save you time when ordering and could get you money off selected products.

Here we explain how to use the McDonald's app.

How to use the app

The app is free to download on both IOS and Android.

Once you have it, you can sign up with a McDonald's rewards scheme account.

On the app, you will able to browse the latest menu available at the restaurant.

It is an easy way to keep updated and order when you are on the go as it works anywhere you have internet.

In the mornings, you'll have access to the breakfast menu options until 11am, when breakfast finishes and lunch begins.

Before ordering you will need to pick the restaurant you want your food to be made at.

After the first time, the app will remember your previous locations and should flag the last restaurant you picked up at.

If you're visiting somewhere new make sure the correct restaurant is selected as the app will autofill your location when it's opened.

After this, you'll be able to look at menu items and add them to your basket.

Once you've completed this, you can confirm your order and head to the restaurant.

When you've arrived, confirm this on the app and select the collection method.

You can set up a payment method in the app which can be saved and used every time too.

You won't be charged until you've arrived at the restaurant and selected a collection method.

You can also select your favourite items with the star button next to each product, making it easier and quicker to reorder your favourite meals.

Plus, the app allows you to customise orders just like when you normally order.

You can remove things you don't want in a burger and add extras.

The only issue is the app won't allow you to pay with cash.

Picking up your order

After placing your order, you'll want to head over to the selected .

Ensure your location services are on as the app will recognise when you're close to the restaurant.

If you've arrived and the app hasn't recognised where you are, try clicking the “I'm here” button.

Once you have declared yourself decide how you'd like to collect your food on the app.

If you select the takeaway option, you'll have to go inside and wait for your order number to appear on the screen.

If you select drive-thru, you must say your name from the order in the designated lane.

At the drive-thru, you won't have to touch your phone while pulling up, so don't worry about an order number here.

Or you can choose the click and serve option, which means you need to park in one of the specific lanes which will each have a number.

Then you'll want to type those digits into the app, and a member of staff will come out to your car with the order.

Alternatively, you could use the table service option and provide the app with the table number you're sitting at.

Staff will then do the rest like normal, and you can enjoy your meal.

Deals offered

The rewards and deals category in the app will show you all of the available offers.

For example, users can get offers including free medium fries with a purchase.

But keep in mind that the deals are subject to whether your local McDonald's is participating in the offer.

Deals for discounts or freebies must be added to your order before you confirm it.

Remember that deals are not discounted in the basket automatically, you must add the deal to your order or you will pay full price for the item.

You can only get the discount on the app though, so you won't find the same prices if you rock up to a branch, or order via UberEats or similar - they might set their own discounts though.

Ordering on Mondays

Every Monday, the app has a host of deals available to cash in on.

You have to order it on the app and claim it from your closest McDonald's by 11.59pm on the day though.

In the past, McDonald's has offered triple cheeseburgers and quarter pounders for £1.09 in the exclusive Monday offer.

Additionally, something new is up for grabs every week.

McDonald's recently added eight new items to the menu.
