Thankfully, you don’t need to fork out a fortune on air-con units to get a kip.

I spoke to the experts at OVO Energy to find out how to cheaply chill out.

WAY TO LOW: Sleep closer to the floor as heat rises!

OVO experts say: “If you stay closer to the floor, you’ll be less hot.

"Trying a Japanese futon or an air mattress can help you sleep lower down, and the further down in your house you sleep the cooler you will be — bonus point if you sleep on the ground floor (or basement!).

My tip: There are some great deals on futons at . With multiple colours to choose from, you can nab one for £74, usually £199.99.

BOTTLE IT: Turn your hot water bottle into an ice pack.

OVO experts say: “Just before bed, pour water into your hot water bottle and pop it in the freezer.

Once frozen, it will emit cold in the same way that it warms you up. If you pop it in your bed before you get in, or place it under your feet, it will help regulate your temperature as you drift off.”

EASY FREEZY: It might sound odd, but before starting your bedtime routine pop those summer PJs in the freezer.

OVO adds: “When you’re ready for bed grab them from the freezer and this will create a cooling effect just long enough for you to fall into a cooler snooze. But don’t overdo it or you’ll have hardened icicles for PJs!”

SHOWER THING: One of my favourite ways to cool down is a chilly shower and the experts agree.

They say: “You can trick your body into thinking it’s cool and turn that shower on colder than normal.

“But, remember not to make the water too cold, and don’t do this right after you’ve come in from intense heat. A sudden change in body temperature can be dangerous.”
