M&S and Asda warn customers they are running out of Easter eggs

SUPERMARKETS have warned they are running out of chocolate eggs days before the Easter weekend.

M&S and Asda have both warned shoppers stock of the seasonal chocolate treats are running low online - and they are flying off shelves in stores too.

In a message to customers on its website, Asda said its stocks of Easter eggs are running low.

We found just a handful of traditional chocolate Easter eggs left to buy online and most of them are vegan and dairy free versions.

The supermarket said: "Our chocolate eggs were so popular with the Easter Bunny this year that we’re running low."

Asda added that it still has "plenty of other treats available" for Easter.

Asda told The Sun that shoppers can still buy eggs in store - but they better be quick.

An Asda spokesperson told us: “We still have eggs available in store but we recommend that shoppers don’t leave it to the last minute as we have seen a rise in demand this year. "

The supermarket said that shoppers have been stocking up early this year and treating themselves to more.

Asda said: "As covid restrictions continue, we know our customers are looking to treat themselves and find new ways to celebrate this Easter.

"We’ve seen many customers choosing to buy their Easter eggs early and buying more than they would normally - the average number of eggs bought ranging between 3-5 eggs per person.

"As a result, we’re predicting sales of over 19 million Easter eggs together with 33 million individual hot cross buns as Brits prepare for what looks to be their biggest Easter yet.”

Meanwhile M&S shoppers are also met with a message saying most of its Easter eggs have sold out online due to high demand.

The high street shop added that customers can still find eggs in stores - but they should get their skates on too to avoid missing out.

An M&S spokesperson said: "M&S has a great selection of Easter goodies, including eggs, available in-store starting from just 75p.

"We predict this Easter to be our biggest ever and our eggs are selling fast so we recommend picking up you Easter favourites whilst you can"

M&S Foodhalls remain open during the latest lockdown because it sells essentials like groceries and toiletries.

Easter eggs were spotted on sale as early Christmas Eve - four months before the bank holiday.
