Six foods supermarkets including Lidl and Co-op are recalling this week
SUPERMARKETS including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Co-op and Lidl are recalling chicken, cakes, cereal and meatballs this week.
The chicken has been recalled over fears it contains salmonella, while the other items may come with pieces of glass or plastic.
Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, while the latter naturally makes the goods unsafe to eat.
Shoppers are being warned not to eat the items and should instead return them to the shop they bought it from for a full refund.
You don't need to have the receipt to get your money back.
Below we round up which products are being recalled.
Your product recall rights
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
Carrot cake and coffee & walnut cake - Co-op
Co-op is recalling its own brand carrot cake as well as coffee and walnut cake over fears they contain pieces of glass.
The product recall applies to the Irresistible range, and the carrot cake with a best before date of March 14.
While the affected coffee and walnut cake has a best before date of March 20.
The Irresistible cakes by Co-op typically cost £3 each.

Co-op said in the recall notice on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website: We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Beef meatballs - Co-op
Co-op is also recalling beef meatballs because they may contain pieces of plastic, making them unsafe to eat.
The recall applies to the "British 12 Beef Meatballs" packs, which weigh 350g and have a best before date of today, March 5.
The meatballs are sold for £3.50 per pack on Co-op's website.

Co-op is also yet to confirm how many packs are being recalled.
A Co-op spokesperson said: “We pride ourselves on food quality and safety and the recall notices are an important precautionary measure for customers while our suppliers investigate the issues.
Wheat Bixies - Lidl
Lidl is also recalling Wheat Bixies packs over fears they contain pieces of plastic too.
The product recall applies to the Crownfield Wholegrain Wheat Bixies 36, which come in a pack size of 720g.
Affected products have a best before date of either January 10, 2022; January 11, 2022; or January 12, 2022.
Lidl told The Sun around 784 packs, which cost £1.49 each, are affected by the recall.
If you don't want to return it to your nearest Lidl store, you can send a photo of it and the best before date to customer.services@lidl.co.uk.
The customer services team will then process this refund via letter.
A Lidl spokesperson told The Sun: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
SFC chicken - Tesco and Sainsbury's
Lastly, chicken sold at shops including Tesco and Sainsbury's has been recalled over salmonella fears.
The product recall applies to certain batches of SFC Chicken Poppets and Take-Home Boneless Bucket products.
All batches of Take-Home Boneless Buckets with a best before date of November 28, 2021 have been recalled.
Previously, this only applied to one batch - with the code L19720 - of the chicken with the same best before date.
Further recalls have also been issued for 190g packets of SFC Chicken Poppets.
Salmonella has been found in an additional batch - with the code L15520 - of this item with the best before date of October 31 2021.
Chicken Poppets with a best before date of February 28 2022 with the batch code L25820 should also not be eaten.
Previously, salmonella was only found in the following batches last month:
- Chicken Poppets with a best before date of September 24 2021 with the batch codes L:13720 and L:15520
- Chicken Poppets with the best before date of October 31 2021 with the batch code L:13720
- Chicken Poppets with the best before date of February 28 2022 with batch codes PKW008A and PKW011A
Lidl was recently forced to recall family packs of pork mince over fears they contain pieces of plastic.
