Just keep in mind you must spend £3,000 in the first three months to get the points, so it won't be suitable for everyone.

Speaking on yesterday, the money guru said: "This is how to get serious shopping at Sainsbury's.

"It’s about the American Express rewards gold credit card.

"If you’re accepted for that and you spend £3,000 on it in three months then you get 23,000 Amex reward points, which includes a 20,000 point bonus."

  • Get personalised weekly offers - As of 2019, Nectar cardholders can select weekly personalised bonus point offers via the Nectar website and app. The points-boosting offers will vary depending on your shopping habits.
  • Use the Juicy Points Boost - Nectar is currently offering all existing between 100 and 2,000 free bonus points, which is equal to between 50p and £10 off your next shop via its app until March 9. To claim the bonus points, users will need to download the app and log in.
  • Double-up promotions - Nectar's annual double-up promotion sees customers exchange loyalty points for digital vouchers worth twice as much as they do outside of the event. It last ran in October, so it could be worth keeping an eye out later this year.
  • However, Martin urged viewers to only do this if your normal spending is more than £1,000 a month.

He added: "If not, don't bother. It's not an excuse for spending more."

American Express advertises that you'll be able to redeem the 23,000 points for a voucher worth £100 at Amazon.

But Martin pointed out a new loophole, which allows you to swap the points for Nectar points instead.

First, you'll need to convert the 23,000 Amex points for 23,000 Avios with British Airways.

Then, thanks to a new partnership between Nectar and British Airways, you can swap the 23,000 Avios for 36,800 Nectar points.

These, in turn, are worth £184 at Nectar partners, including Sainsbury's and Argos.

To convert points, account holders need to link their Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts, which can be done on either the Nectar or British Airways Executive Club website.

If you're keen to do it, remember it's a credit card so make sure you pay it off in full each month or you'll be hit with interest charges.

It's also important to keep in mind that only 51% of applicants have to be given the marketed rate, so you could be offered a worse deal.

Plus, be aware the American Express rewards gold credit card comes with an annual fee of £140, although it's free in your first year.
