Sainsbury’s Valentine’s Day meal deal includes oysters, steak and GU desserts

SAINSBURY’S has unveiled its Valentine’s Day meal deal and it includes oysters, steak and GU desserts.

Lovebirds can choose a starter, main, side, dessert, plus a bottle of wine or chocolates for £20 or less on a selection of items at the supermarket.

Sainbury's
You can choose from 54 different options in the Valentine’s Day meal deal

The meal deal, which is available in stores and online between February 10 and February 14, is a posh stay-at-home option while restaurants remain closed due to coronavirus restrictions.

How much you save in the deal depends on the combination of food you choose.

You’ll only save cash in the offer if your meal would normally come to more than the £20 limit, otherwise you’ll pay the standard price.

The most amount you can save by choosing the priciest items in the selection is £6.

Outside the deal, scallop gratin or bresaola starter would set you back £3.75 each, and the crusted cod ratatouille costs £10 normally.

Pair these with any £2.70 side, with options including potato dauphinoise or cauliflower cheese, plus any £3.30 GU dessert and a £6.25 bottle of Prosecco, and your bill would normally be £26.

But you’ll only pay £20 thanks to the deal, so a saving of £6.

However, you won’t save anything in the Valentine’s Day deal if you choose the cheapest options.

For example, the smokehouse salmon starter usually costs £2.25, while two vegan steaks for main is normally price at £3.

Adding a side of garlic bread for £1.50, a bottle of Mondelli Rosato for £5, and Sainsbury’s strawberries for £2.20, the total comes to £13.95 – and this is what you’ll pay.

Some items are not currently available to buy separately so we couldn’t include them in our price comparison so you may be able to save even more in the deal.

We’ve asked Sainsbury’s for more information on what these cost and will update this piece when we hear back.

It’s not the cheapest Velentine’s Day supermarket meal deal though.

Morrisons is offering a starter, main, two sides, dessert and drinks or chocolate for £15.

The Co-op also announced its February 14 offering for £15, which includes one starter, main, side, dessert and bottle of fizz, or £12 if you swap the booze for a soft drink.

In total, there are 53 different options to choose from at Sainsbury’s but the selection differs in Scotland and the deal is not available in Northern Ireland.

If you’re already planning how you’ll spend February 14,  to track down your nearest supermarket.

If you’re an online shopper, you’ll need to factor in a delivery cost, which will vary depending on where and when you get your food delivered.
