Big fashion chains including New Look and Dorothy Perkins selling leftover stock on eBay for up to 86% off
BIG fashion retailers including New Look, Dorothy Perkins and L.K. Bennett are selling leftover stock on eBay for up to 86% off.
It comes as coronavirus lockdown has resulted in mountains of unsold clothes and shoes, with retailers forced to discount items to get rid of stock.
All non-essential retailers in England have remained shut since November 5, but they're set to reopen on December 2.
The restrictions have pushed more consumers to shop online, although retailers have still suffered from falling sales.
To help boost them, a wide range of brands are selling their items from eBay's outlet store online.
Four in every five items sold on eBay are new, including clothes from the current season, according to the auction site.
How to get a good outlet deal
WE'VE found discounts of up to 86%, here’s our top tips:
- Buy what you need. Never, ever buy something just because it’s a good deal. Only spend money if it’s something you were already going to buy.
- Is it a good discount? Check the item isn’t being sold on the retailer's website - and elsewhere - for the same amount or less. Shops aren’t trying to deceive you but mistakes happen.
- Is it new? Check the “condition” part of the eBay listing. It should say “new with tags”, if it doesn’t it may have been used before. This is fine but you should pay even less.
- Know your rights. Each shop will have a different returns, delivery and rights policy. Check before you buy.
Available bargains include a red, short-sleeved dress from L.K. Bennett, a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge, down from £125 to £17.
While Dorothy Perkins has slashed a pink blouse with 3/4 sleeves from £32, down to £9.99, working out as 69% off.
The discounts come as Burberry caused outrage in 2018 by burning £28million of unsold items.
Murray Lambell, general manager for eBay UK, told The Sun: "We have been working with well-known brands for many years, but since the pandemic we’ve seen a marked shift in the volume of retailers and brands exploring marketplaces as a channel to reach new customers and grow sales.
