The ad, which is two mins long and launches on National Kindness Day, is based on the idea of paying it forward.
That means if we all do something kind for someone else and then they do the same the world is a better place, creating a chain reaction of kindness.
The story for the ad was inspired by the response to the Covid pandemic by the British public.
But what are all the difference scenes and what are the act of kindness that they have created? Everything is explained below.
What are the 9 different acts of kindness?
Each scene has been created by a different director and has a different style - from live action to clay modelling to CGI to felt.
It means the advert looks really different to previous years as it jumps between styles.
- Girl in a yellow raincoat helps the boy get football stuck in a snow-covered tree - with a heart-shaped umbrella.
- Boy with his yellow football sees a partly melted snowman stuck in a front garden - he gets some snow off the ground and gives him a heart-shaped snow balloon so he can float away.
- Snowman floats and lands on a High Street and helps a snow couple with a flat tyre get their car going with a new wheel.
- The passengers deliver a bag of Waitrose shopping to a pensioner couple.
- The husband spots a lonely neighbour and offers to pull a cracker from his bag of shoppping
- The neighbour is a barber who gives a boy an extra special haircut
- The boy gives a symbolic heart to his little brother
- A pigeon sees and agrees to take in a hedgehog to teach him to fly
- A nurse on a bus sees a heart-shaped cloud trial in the sky and gives her heart-shaped sticker on an apple to a girl with broken specs
The message behind the ad is to help pay it forward, creating a chain reaction of kindness.
John Lewis says it wants "Give A Little Love" to inspire a movement - and that the message isn't just for Christmas.
James Bailey, executive director of Waitrose, said: “Each year festive adverts come and go - and some are remembered more vividly than others.
"But our advertising this year will leave a lasting legacy - and in that way, we hope it won’t just be for Christmas.”
The retailer plans to carry on the Give A Little Love message in the future.

The retailer is also selling merchandise this year to help raise money for the charity appeal.
It includes t-shirts, mugs and the heart-shaped umbrella from the advert.
But the umbrella sold out within an hour of it going on sale.
The single which is an original track by a British soul artist called Celeste is the soundtrack to the advert.
