Eat Out to Help Out menus for supermarket cafes, including Tesco and Morrisons
GROCERY shoppers will be able to nab discounted meals from supermarket cafes including Tesco and Morrisons from Monday.
From August 3, the government will pay for half the bill, up to £10 per head, for meals eaten in as part of the Eat Out to Help out scheme.
The money-off meal deal will only be applied to food orders placed on Monday through to Wednesday in August.
It applies to all food and soft drinks orders that are eaten at the place that you bought them, including kids' meals.
The new incentive aims to get Brits back to restaurants and pubs to boost the economy and save jobs in the hospitality sector, which has suffered huge blows as a result of the pandemic.
It comes after Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently also cut VAT for the industry from 20 per cent to just 5 per cent until January next year.
How will the Eat Out to Help Out scheme work?
THE government will cover half of the cost of a meal out, up to £10 a head, including children's meals.
The discount means that a meal out for one that costs £20 will be reduced to £10, but a £25 meal for one will be slashed to £15 because of the £10 cap per person.
There is no limit to the number of times you can use the discount, so in theory you can get half price meals on every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August.
Businesses will need to register with the scheme on Gov.uk before being able to offer the discount, as well as be Food Standards Agency approved.
Instead of issuing discount vouchers - which the government felt increased the risk of fraud - restaurants, cafes and pubs will be able to claim back the cash.
The refund will then been transferred into restaurants, cafes and pubs' bank accounts within five working days.
Customers will only receive the discount if they eat out at a registered business.
A number of supermarkets have signed up to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, while others are running their own versions.
It could come in handy if you fancy a treat while shopping groceries.
Below's what all the major supermarkets in the UK with cafes are planning.
Aldi, Co-op, Iceland and Lidl currently don't have any cafes in its shops.
Asda
Asda's cafes are running a 50 per cent off deal Monday to Wednesday in August when customers eat in, capped at a £10 discount per person.
This is the same offer as the Eat Out to Help Out scheme - but this is funded by Asda, rather than the government.
The deal will be live in all of Asda's 112 eat in cafés.
It means shoppers will be able to nab a whole 16" inch pizza for £3, down from £6.
Alternatively, you can order a full English breakfast for just under £2.18, down from £4.35, and fish & chips for roughly £2.38, down from £4.75.
Morrisons
Morrisons' cafes have registered with the scheme, meaning prices across its menu will drop by 50 per cent, it told The Sun.
It's also passing on the recent VAT cut savings in full to consumers, meaning prices will be even lower.
For example, in August Morrisons shoppers can nab a regular breakfast for £1.62, down from £3.75.
You can also nab a fish & chips for £2.25, down from £4.90, or porridge with berry compote and fruit for 75p, down from £2.
The deals will be available in all of the supermarket's 320 UK cafes.
The Eat Out to Help Out scheme is available Monday to Wednesday, but Morrisons is going even further and will reduce prices by 50 per cent Thursday to Sunday too.
M&S
M&S told The Sun it'll also take part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme in all of its 201 cafes currently open.
Similar to Morrisons, it's also passed on the full VAT cut savings to consumers, meaning prices will be even lower.
It means you can get a large cappuccino for £1.29 Monday to Wednesday in August, down from £2.95 pre-VAT cut.
Or if you're feeling peckish, you can nab a cheese & ham toastie for £1.97, down from £4.50.
Alternatively, you can order a tomato & mozzarella pizza to eat in for just £2.61, down from £5.95.
M&S has just under 400 cafes across the UK.
Sainsbury's
All Sainsbury's cafes remain closed for the time being following the coronavirus crisis, so you won't be able to nab discount meals.
The supermarket told The Sun it's constantly reviewing the decision to remain shut.
Tesco
Similar to Asda, Tesco cafes will also offer 50 per cent off its full menu Monday to Wednesday during August.
Better yet, there's no limit on the discount and it's available for dine in as well as takeaway.
Tesco said it'll fund the promotion themselves, rather then ask the government to reimburse them.
The deals mean you can get a full English breakfast at Tesco for just £2.07, down from £4.15, or a fish & chips will set you back £2.85, down from £5.70.
Or if you fancy a sweet treat, you may want to buy a slice of Victoria sponge and a latte for £2.37, down from £4.75.
The deals are available in all of Tesco's 315 cafes.
Waitrose
Waitrose told The Sun it's currently not planning to take part in the scheme as only seven of its 116 cafes are open.
The Waitrose cafes that are open are also offering reduced menus.
The supermarket added that it plans to reopen 15 more cafes in the next few weeks.
