Pizza Hut confirms it will run Rishi Sunak’s Eat In to Help Out meal deal

PIZZA Hut has confirmed that it will offer half price meals in August as it plans to sign up to the Eat In to Help Out scheme.

Under the initiative, government will pay for 50 per cent of the bill - up to £10 per head - when Brits dine in restaurants, pubs and cafes.

Restaurants who sign up to the scheme will be able to slash customer's bills in half Monday through to Wednesday in August and then claim back the cash from the government.

The money will be transferred into businesses' bank accounts within five working days.

The incentive was announced by the Chancellor yesterday as part of a £30billion package to save jobs in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown.

Further details of the scheme were published today, which revealed that any business that let customers dine-in will be eligible to sign up.

How will the Eat Out to Help Out scheme work?

THE government will cover half of the cost of the meal out, up to £10 a head, including children's meals.

The discount means that a meal out for two that costs £20 will be reduced to £10, but a £25 meal for two will be slashed to £15 because of the £10 cap per person.

There is no limit to the number of times you can use the discount, so in theory you can get half price meals on every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August.

Businesses will need to register with the scheme on Gov.uk before being able to offer the discount, as well as be Food Standards Agency approved.

Instead of issuing discount vouchers - which the government felt increased the risk of fraud - restaurants, cafes and pubs will be able to claim back the cash.

The refund will then been transferred into restaurants, cafes and pubs' bank accounts within five working days.

Customers will only receive the discount if they eat out at a registered business.

Burger King boss Alasdair Murdoch has already said that is will sign up to the scheme, meaning fans can get half price Whoppers this summer.

Now, Pizza Hut has said that it will also be registering for the initiative so hungry pizza fans can enjoy half price meals.

Pizza Hut prices vary depending on the restaurant that you go to, but a pepperoni meat feast in London will typically set you back £11.79.

But under the scheme, the same meal would cost just £5.85.

The half price offer can also be applied on top of other discounts and promotions that the chain is running.

Pizza Hut is currently running an individual meal deal offer that includes two courses for £15.99, but it would cost £7.50 under the new scheme.

And these are the prices before the VAT rate is cut from 20 per cent to 5 per cent from next week, meaning you'll save even more cash when it finally launches.

It comes as Pizza Hut started to welcome back customers at 100 branches this week, and plans to open another 100 next week.

Because it can't offer its famous buffet under the government's Covid-19 secure guidelines, it is now offering a "bottomless bluffet" option,

As well as an individual pizza, customers will get a bowl of salad, plus free tortilla chips and a basket of garlic bread sticks, all brought to the table by a member of staff.

Prices cost £8.50 for an adult and £5.50 for a child before 3pm - although these will all be half price under the scheme.

Neil Manhas, general manager of Pizza Hut Delivery said: "The scheme will lessen the cost of eating out for consumers and, we hope, lead to a significant and much-needed boost in demand for the thousands of restaurants, pubs and cafés that have been closed for months."
