How McDonald’s will change when it reopens for takeaway at the end of he month

MCDONALD'S has added a raft of new safety rules at its restaurants as it gears up to reopen all 1,300 branches for takeaways by the end of the month.

Its good news for Maccies fans who live outside of a McDelivery area, or those who can't get to one of the reopened drive-thru branches.

But getting food from the fast food chain won't be the same as before lockdown, with a string of new measures being introduced to help slow the spread of Covid-19.

Unfortunately, branches will only be offering a limited menu so you won't be able to get your hands on some of your favourite grub.

But the staples will still be available to order, including the Big Mac, chicken nuggets and Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

Opening hours will be shorter too, from 11am until 10pm, even if it's a 24-hour branch.

Like many stores, Maccies will be asking customers to follow a one-way system, which has been marked on the floor, to help people keep two metres apart.

The number of customers allowed inside the restaurants at one time will be limited although caps vary by branch depending on the size and layout.

All customers coming into the building will be asked to wash their hands with santiser at one of the newly erected stations.

Like the supermarkets, McDonald's is encouraging just one person per household to collect your order to free up space in the restaurant, although it won't be actively enforcing this rule.

Orders will be capped at £25 to make sure that the reduced team in the kitchen is able to process them quickly.

You'll still be able to place your order inside on the touch screens as staff has upped the cleaning regime and will be sanitising them every 30 minutes, but fewer will be open.

Alternatively, customers can order their food to collect for free via the My McDonald’s app.

Children are welcome if it's not possible for them to stay at home, but all of the colouring in equipment has been put away and the digital play screens switched off.

As per government guidelines, the seating areas, customer toilets, lifts and recycling points will all remain closed.

These rules are on top of the safety measures already put in place by the fast food giant before opening for drive-thru and UberEATS orders.

These include, fewer staff, social distancing in the kitchens and PPE for staff if they want it.
