McDonald’s food app helps speed up drive-thrus as some fans wait up to TWO hours in mile-long queues

MCDONALD'S is urging customers to pre-order their food using its app to help speed up drive thru queues which have seen some wait up to TWO hours to get served.

Fast food fans have complained about "mile-long" queues after McDonald's reopened 33 drive thrus in England.

Once customers reach the front of the queue they must first order their food and then pay before picking up their food - but a spokesperson for McDonald's told The Sun that they can skip the first two windows if they pre-oder via its app.

Customers can even order their food from home and the restaurant won't start processing the order until you are 100 meters away from the restaurant.

McDonald’s has warned it could be forced to close drive-thru locations today if queues get out of hand.

A spokesperson said: "One thing that is slowing the queue down a little at all the restaurants is people not knowing what’s on the limited menu.

"People are getting served much quicker when they’ve ordered via our app, as whilst they have to queue to get there, they order from home have seen the full menu, so then drive to the store and once there speed straight through the first two windows."

Some devoted fans have been "waiting up to two hours" to get their hands on big macs and nuggets.

One customer said on Twitter: "Can't believe the queue for McDonald's drive thru is 2 hours", another added: "I thought there had been a car crash because of the traffic in town, turns out it was just the queue for McDonald's after it open the drive thru again."

A third said: "Huge queue to get into the McDonald's drive thru in London. The queue was more than a mile."

McDonald's is only selling a limited menu and on reduced hours as it has less staff in kitchens due to social distancing measures.

Orders are capped at £25, plus you can customise your order to include or exclude extra items.

Furious McDonald’s fans slammed the fast food chain for "hating the north" as the drive thrus are all in the south.

McDonald's was flooded with orders last week when it reopened its first 15 restaurants since the coronavirus lockdown.

The high demand left some customers missing out, with some diners complaining that they couldn't place an order on Uber Eats.

McDonald's had previously warned that deliveries will take longer than usual.

But yesterday, McDonald's confirmed its plans to reopen all drive thrus by early June, with restaurants in the north to reopen in two to three weeks.
