Aldi tests new same-day delivery service with Deliveroo

ALDI shoppers can now get groceries delivered to their door as the supermarket trials taking Deliveroo orders.

From today, shoppers who live near Aldi's Daleside Road store in Nottingham can order food and drink straight to their home in as little as 30 minutes using the popular service.

Under the scheme, shoppers can pick from over 150 Aldi products, which will initially consist of a range of essential items, such as bread, milk and fresh produce.

Items are chosen and packed by Aldi staff in-store for delivery via Deliveroo’s network of riders.

The trial will be extended to a further seven stores across the East Midlands in June, with a view to it being rolled out nationwide by the end of 2020 if successful.

Aldi wouldn't disclose which seven stores these are but if you're in the catchment area the shop will show up in the app or online when you tap in your postcode.

Deliveroo is free to use and sign up to, although fees tend to vary by retailer and how far away you live from the business in question.

For Aldi shops, you'll be charged £4.99 per order and you'll need to place an order of at least £15.

Individual product prices will vary via Deliveroo compared to in store, which means they'll likely cost more as you're paying a premium to not leave your home.

Aldi doesn't currently offer online grocery deliveries, although last month it launched a £23.99 essentials home delivery food box containing 22 items including tinned soup, rice and pasta.

The box is designed specifically for those struggling to get to stores due to the coronavirus crisis - with the price including delivery.

You can also order some of Aldi's Specialbuys online, which vary weekly from gardening products to homeware, as well as alcohol.

Here, home delivery is free on orders above £20 or £2.95 on orders under this with goods currently taking between three and ten working days to arrive.

Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Tesco have all offered home delivery services with years, each setting their own minimum spend and delivery fees.

Discounter Lidl is yet to move online, but we've recently seen Co-op and M&S Food also partner with Deliveroo for nationwide deliveries.

M&S charges a flat £4.99 delivery fee, while deliveries fees for Co-op vary depending on how close you are to the shop.
