Part of this is working out how to keep as many employees off public transport as possible – and lots of workers have turned to bikes as the solution.
Bosses have also been advised to install extra showers and bike storage facilities to make sure people can cycle to work if they want to.
But commuting on two wheels is not necessarily cheap.
Bikes can range from a couple of hundred pounds to well over £1,000 and more.
We’ve rounded up some of the best places to look if you want to start cycling, but don’t want to break the bank.
Amazon
The online retailing giant has a vast selection of bikes for all price ranges.
We found this unisex in orange which would be perfect for a city commute, as long as you don’t encounter too many hills.
At £199.14 with free shipping it is a reasonably inexpensive option.
Argos
Argos has both a men’s and women’s – the cheapest price we’ve found.
The steel frame and six gears should have you speeding along in no time.
And reviews for both bikes are mostly positive, with people saying that they represent good value for money.
Decathlon
Sports shop Decathlon has a good selection of bikes at reasonable prices, including this .
It would be suitable for both men and women, as it comes in two different sizes.
Unfortunately, a number of Decathlon’s bikes, especially those at the cheaper end, are currently out of stock.
We’ve asked Decathlon when it might get more stock in and will update this article when we know more.
Evans
Cycle specialist Evans has plenty of bikes in stock, although its models generally do not come in as cheap as some of the other retailers we’ve checked.
This is at the cheaper end of the scale at £325.00.
With an aluminium frame, it isn’t too heavy for riding around town, and the basket on the front might come in handy for holding your shopping.
Delivery costs £4.99 per bike, and current delivery times are 10-14 days, or you can click and collect from your local store for free.
Go Outdoors
Leisure shop Go Outdoors sells a number of bikes, but like Evans, they are at the higher end of the price range.
This is “perfect for daily commutes and easy-moderate trails”, according to the website.
In store you will pay £400.00, but if you have a Go Outdoors discount card then it is £349.00.
You can buy an annual discount card for £5 – which if you want this bike is worth doing as you would save £46 off the usual price.
Halfords
Like Argos, Halfords sells a basic six-speed and mountain bike for £100.00.
Halfords won’t currently deliver these bikes to you, but you can click and collect for free.
And the company will also build the bike for free before you pick it up if you want.
According to transport secretary Grant Shapps, the UK can only handle 10 per cent of train and bus journeys with social distancing.
Here’s how your workplace might change under the new social distancing rules.
And Matt Hancock, the health secretary, has said it is likely that there will be no foreign summer holidays for Brits this year.
