Tesco May bank holiday opening times – what time do stores open this weekend?

TESCO stores across the UK remained open over the VE Day May bank holiday weekend - here’s what you need to know.

VE Day fell on Friday, May 8, 2020 and to mark the occasion, Brits celebrated with a bank holiday on Friday.

The Friday day off was instead of the usual early May bank holiday, which falls on the first Monday of May each year.

Tesco stores were open under their usual Friday hours on VE Day.

Shops were also open as normal on Saturday and will be today - Sunday May 10.

The majority of stores have already altered their opening hours due to the coronavirus crisis.

Here's what you need to know.

Tesco opening hours for VE Day May bank holiday weekend

Tesco is operating its usual hours over the bank holiday weekend.

However, as opening times vary between branches, customers are advised to use the to double-check the hours for their nearest branch.

Friday, May 8 (VE Day): Superstores, Express outlets and Metro stores opened at either 6am or 7am.

Shops will then shut at either 10pm or 11pm.

Tesco has reduced the hours of all 24 hour branches so that staff have more time to clean stores.

Saturday May 9: Saturday hours were the same as Friday hours.

Sunday May 10: Sunday trading hours will be in place as normal.

This means superstores will open at either 10am or 11am, and shut at 4pm or 5pm.

Smaller Express and Metro outlets will open earlier - usually either 6am or 7am.

These stores usually shut at 10pm or 11pm on Sundays.

Tesco has just under 4,000 stores in the UK.

Does Tesco still have item restrictions in place?

TESCO has lifted some item restrictions in stores, but some limits still apply.

Restrictions are still in place on products such as toilet roll, alcohol, pasta, and hand sanitisers.

Tesco said: "We’ve kept these limits until we’re fully stocked up again

"We continue to encourage customers to buy only what they need, to help make sure there’s enough for everyone."

Tesco also still has an 80-item limit in place for online orders.

  • Monday, May 25 (Spring Bank Holiday)
  • Monday, August 31 (Summer Bank Holiday)
  • Friday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Monday, December 28 (substitute Boxing Day)
