VE Day May Bank Holiday DIY store opening times for B&Q, Homebase, Wickes and Screwfix

MANY people have been using the coronavirus lockdown as an opportunity to try out their DIY skills at home.

Thankfully, DIY stores are counted as essential and allowed to remain open, despite many making the call early on to close down anyway.

Now, hardware stores are slowly opening their doors once again as they say they are confident they they can operate while keeping staff and customers safe.

Firday was the first bank holiday in May and marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

If you're planning on using the three-day weekend to carry out some home renovations, then here's how the bank holiday affects DIY store opening hours:

B&Q

B&Q have now reopened all 288 of its stores nationwide although staff and customers will have to follow strict social distancing measures.

This includes two metre floor markers throughout shops and perspex screens at checkouts.

Customers may also have to queue to get into stores, with shops limiting the number of shoppers allowed in at one time.

The retailer was open as usual on Saturday with most stores opening between 8am and 6pm, but this may vary depending on your location.

Today, most stores are open from 10am until 4pm.

Homebase

Homebase has reopened all of its stores across the UK after a successful trial of 20 stores back in April.

Stores are planned to open from 10am until 4pm today - but you should check individual branch opening times .

Despite being open again, it has stopped offering some services such as kitchen design appointments, key cutting or some concessions, including Bathstore and Rug Doctor carpet cleaners, which you can normally hire for 48 hours.

Online orders are also taking longer to process than usual due to high demand.

Screwfix

Screwfix stores remain closed for browsing but customers can pick up "essential" click and collect orders.

The retailers have designated outside areas where customers can collect their items.

On Sunday, stores will be open for collection from 9am to 4pm.

Some stores have had to close due to staffing levels so it's worth finding out what .

Wickes

Wickes has only reopened six of its 230 stores with strict social distancing measures in place a month after the government put us into lockdown.

Stores in Pudsey, Cheltenham, Preston, Sevenoaks, Cricklewood and Hailsham opened to the public on Thursday, April 30.

It's changed its opening hours and limited the number of customers allowed in any store at one times.

Wickes stores are open from 7am until 6pm from Monday to Saturday, including this bank holiday.

Wickes stores are closed on Sundays.
