Employment help and advice as it’s feared one in three jobs could be lost due to coronavirus

A SHOCK new study claims one in three jobs could be lost in parts of the UK due to the coronavirus crisis.

Experts from the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce say jobs in hospitality, retail and tourism are most likely to be hit — and a plan revealed by British Airways this week to make 12,000 staff redundant shows huge job cuts are already starting to bite.

If you’re applying for a job in a different sector or role, really draw out those transferable skills that demonstrate you have the knowhow and attitude to thrive in the job.

Be a brainbox: Make the most of online training to help you upskill or reskill.

The DWP’s new page provides links to training, including the new Skills Toolkit that launched this week.

Network, Network, Network (remotely): If you haven’t got one already, set up a LinkedIn profile.
Ensure you have your settings so recruiters know you’re looking for opportunities so they can reach out to you.

Hang out at the fair: There are some great virtual careers fairs taking place which can build contacts and give you face time with employers.

Just remember that looking smart still counts.

Squeaky-clean social profile: Look through your own social media and check there’s nothing you wouldn’t be happy for a potential employer to see.

Go easy on yourself: Times are tough, we’re stuck indoors and putting yourself out there and applying for jobs can take its toll — this is normal.
It can feel relentless but putting the hard yards in now will pay off in the end.
