A SHOCK new study claims one in three jobs could be lost in parts of the UK due to the coronavirus crisis.

Experts from the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce say jobs in hospitality, retail and tourism are most likely to be hit — and a plan revealed by British Airways this week to make 12,000 staff redundant shows huge job cuts are already starting to bite.

Care home specialist CARE UK has 500 jobs across the country.

As well as frontline care roles, there are opportunities for kitchen hands, head chefs, receptionists and housekeepers.

Chef Andrew Bedwell began his career at Raymond Blanc’s world-famous restaurant Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons in Oxford and ran catering at Blenheim Palace before deciding to become the head chef at Millers Grange care home, in Witney, Oxon.

Tech training expert MTHREE is offering an Aspire Scholarship to train specialist software developers during lockdown.

The 12-week course helps students graduating with STEM degrees to become full-stack java developers.

The online course, which normally costs £8,500, has start dates throughout May, June and July. Mthree will help graduates secure a role at a blue-chip firm on completion.

Professional networking site LINKEDIN has set up a Coronavirus Resource Hub, including a service to quickly connect medical professionals to urgent healthcare roles.

New medical job vacancies are being automatically shown to members such as nurses who have matching skills.

Candidates can then apply immediately.

The site is also offering free job posts for frontline roles, including medical device manufacturing, mental health care, warehousing and freight.

UK country manager Josh Graff said: “Every day we are hearing heroic stories of how those on the front lines are working around the clock to protect the public.

“It’s clear, however, that more help is needed to fill the most urgent open roles.”

What if you’ve already accepted a new role? Starting a new job is always stressful, but beginning it under lockdown away from your new colleagues is even tougher.

Neda Kinduryte recently joined online used car marketplace Heycar under lockdown as a website engineer.

Here are Neda’s top tips for tackling a remote start to a new job.

ASK QUESTIONS: It’s crucial to understand your new company’s culture so you quickly feel part of the team.

HR departments or line managers should talk you through this in your first week, and ask as many questions as you need.

GET YOUR FACE KNOWN: Normally in a new job, you’d meet your colleagues and quickly get to know them.

As that’s not possible right now, arrange video one-to-ones and group calls so you can piece together what everyone does.

STICK AROUND AFTER HOURS: While Friday drinks are out, socialise online.

It’s a great way to get to know your new colleagues away from work and find out about their personalities.

LITTLE THINGS MATTER: Attending lots of video meetings in my first few weeks has meant I’ve seen inside almost all my new workmates’ homes.

I’ve met pets, children and partners.
You really get to know them quickly and it makes for great conversation-starters too.
