COCA-Cola has issued a safety warning for its 1.5 litre bottles of original Coke over fears that customers can hurt themselves on the packaging.
The bottle neck rings on some batches have mistakenly been made with a sharp and uneven rim edge.
The household brand fears that customers could cut themselves on the edges when opening or closing the bottles.
The manufacturers have reassured fans that nothing is wrong with the actual drink itself.
The large bottles are sold in many supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda, typically for around £2 each.
Affected bottles have a best before date of September 30 2020 and one of eight batch codes (please see the box), which you can find printed below the neck of the bottle.
Which Coca-Cola bottles are affected?
BOTTLES affected by the safety notice contain 1.5l and have one of the following batch codes:
- 083EK3TT:TT
- 084EK3TT:TT
- 085EK3TT:TT
- 086EK3TT:TT
- 087EK3TT:TT
- 088EK3TT:TT
- 089EK3TT:TT
- 090EK3TT:TT
If you have one of these bottles at home, you should check the bottle neck ring carefully before opening it.
If there is damage to the ring, customers are advised to open it with care by placing one hand on the cap and the other on the bottle neck.
Customers who aren't able to open it safely can call the customer service team on 0800 227711 Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
In a statement on the Food Standard Agency website, Coca-Cola said: "The safety and quality of our products is of paramount importance to us and we do all we can to ensure they reach people in perfect condition.
"We are sorry that on this occasion a small number of our products have not met our required standards."
A safety warning is different to a recall because the manufacturers aren't actually pulling the product from shelves.
