From B&Q to Wickes which hardware stores ARE open over the Easter weekend

HARDWARE shops are allowed to remain open during the lockdown for essential items but hours have changed because of the Easter holiday.

Here we list all the shops that are open over the weekend and what online services are available.

Under trading rules shops are required to shut on Easter Sunday and on Christmas Day in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (there are no restrictions in Scotland).

Therefore all the major DIY shops will be shut on Easter Sunday.

Most are open Saturday 11 and on Monday 13 although the exact opening hours will depend on the shop and branch in question.

If you are planning on heading out to collect some DIY supplies, you may be faced with long queues. Customers in one Nottingham B&Q branch had to queue for an hour to pick up click and collect orders.

There have also been long delays on online orders, with websites including Wickes and B&Q leaving customers waiting an hour or longer just to get onto the website.

These shops are also only open at the moment for essential items.

On March 23 Boris Johnson urged Brits to stay at home to stop the spread of Covid-19 and ordered all "non-essential" shops to shut - but DIY shops have remained open.

Here we round up which other hardware shops are open over Easter and how opening hours have changed.

Argos

All 700 Argos standalone shops have now closed but the 300 Argos concessions found within some Sainsbury's shops are open.

Online delivery remains the same over Easter, you can order products for the click and collect service in stores.

On Easter Sunday the majority of Sainsbury's shops are shut and on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday they're open from 8am to 8pm.

B&Q

Branches of B&Q have been shut for two weeks but customers are able to order online at any time and then pick up with the click and collect service.

Most stores are open from 8am until 5pm on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday and closed on Easter Sunday.

In Scotland stores are open on Easter Sunday for collections.

Home delivery is also available, priced at £5 for next day delivery and free for orders over £50.

Customers are told not to go to a shop unless they have been told their item is ready for collection.

Once they do the items will be brought out to their cars to reduce the amount of interaction between customers and staff due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Homebase

Homebase stores will remain closed over the Easter break on Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday.

Customers can make online orders through the company's website but high demand means these will take longer than usual to arrive.

As shops are not open refunds can also not be processed but it has said these can be done when it reopens.

Screwfix

While Screwfix shops aren't open for browsing you can use the click and collect service if you need to buy something.

All UK shops apart from those in Scotland are closed on Easter Sunday.

On Saturday and Easter Monday they will open between 8am and 5pm.

Online delivery is also available although this may take longer than usual to arrive.

Orders can be delivered to your home and you can choose contactless deliveries when you order.

All 230 Wickes stores are currently closed but they are offering a click and collect services, with customers able to pick up items outside the front entrance of shops.

Over the Easter weekend, the shop will be completely shut on Easter Sunday in Northern Ireland, England, and Wales.

Customers will be able to pick up items on Saturday and Easter Monday between 6.30am and 4pm. Although this may depend on the branch so it's always worth checking the  to see when yours is open.

Click and collect orders can only be placed from 6am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, not on Sundays, and only on a more limited range.

You can order from the website for home delivery but it is experiencing high demand and now has an online queuing system in place.

Asda has started a free prescription service for some customers.

Morrisons has lifted all restrictions on the number of products shoppers can buy.

The cost of Easter eggs has been slashed at some supermarkets as they try to clear stocks.
