DEBENHAMS has launched a 30 per cent off sale even though the chain is on the verge of going into administration.

This morning, the department store chain announced that it was looking to appoint administrators for the second time in a year.

But the pre-packaged deal isn't a form of insolvency, more a series of measures to help stop the struggling from going bust.

In short, the owners want to push the business into administration and then buy it back debt-free.

The retailer was struggling to stay afloat before the impact of coronavirus hit the high street.

All 142 Debenhams stores are closed after the government ordered the closure of all non-essential shops.

Which shops can stay open during UK lockdown?

  • Food retailers
  • Pharmacies
  • Hardware stores
  • Corner shops
  • Petrol stations
  • Shops in hospitals
  • Post offices
  • Banks
  • Newsagents
  • Laundrettes
  • Pet shops

But customers can still shop online, and the retailer is accepting gift cards and refunds as normal.

Now, its slashed prices by up to 30 per cent across a number of ranges, including women's, men's kids' and home.

The Easter sale also sees prices in the beauty range dropped by 15 per cent, while some clearance products have up to 50 per cent knocked off the price tag.

It's worth noting that you'll have to fork out for the delivery which costs £3.49 for orders under £50, or they're free for orders over £50.

Of course, you should also be aware that if you order stuff and the company goes bust, your order might not be fulfilled.

And if it's not in a position to refund customers in full, you'll be added to a list of creditors who are owed cash.

Big banks and lenders are always paid first so you may never see all of your cash back.

To protect your cash on purchases over £100 you should pay on your credit card as they're protected under Section 75 of the Consumer Rights Act.

This means that you'll be able to claim your money back even if the retailer collapses into administration.
