WE’VE only had a few days of lockdown but parents are already running out of ways to entertain children wanting to enjoy the sunshine.
So today, for the last day of our Keep Kids Busy week, I’ve put together tips for fun in your garden.
From games to DIY water pistols, have a go at these:
SPLASH OUT: No super soaker? There’s an alternative. Rinse old ketchup bottles and fill them with water and you’ve got a DIY water pistol. Warning: The kids will use these against you!
Homemade sprinklers are easy with a used old squash bottle. Pierce several holes in the side of the bottle and attach the nozzle (lid off) to the hose with tape. Hours of fun.
TWO BECOME FUN: It’s easy to create a giant game of pairs in the garden. All you need is 12 sheets of paper and a felt-tip pen. Parents should draw two of each shape (hearts, squares, circles) and then lay them face down on the grass. Kids can then turn them over in twos, trying to match them.
BOX CLEVER: Kids’ building blocks can be used to make planters or pots. Help little ones to build a box and you can repot existing garden plants.
TREASURE HUNT: Bringing the Easter Bunny hunt forward a few weeks can keep little ones entertained. Anything can be treasure. Perhaps they could find tins hidden in the garden or hide their toys — that is one way to make sure they will find them all.
HAVE A GLOW: If you can get your hands on any cheap glowsticks or have some lying around from a party, I love this cheap, easy idea. Save six clear plastic bottles, and simply pop a glowstick in each. Arrange them on the grass as dusk falls, grab a ball and play glow-in-the-dark bowling. Make it harder by filling the bottles with a little water to see them bounce back.
