B&Q shoppers unable to get online for two hours as website goes down after DIY chain closes stores

B&Q’s shoppers were unable to buy from the hardware chain earlier today after its website went down while all UK shops remain shut.

The DIY retailer had previously told all customers to order online after shutting shops due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A message on the B&Q website this morning

A message on the retailer’s website reads: “Sorry, our techies are currently working on diy.com.

“We know you’re keen to get on with your home improvement project…we’ll be back soon.”

The website went down shortly before 10am and was back up and running by 12pm.

Customers were advised to contact B&Q on 03330 143 098 although lines are extremely busy.

B&Q stores have been shut since March 24

B&Q shops have been closed since March 24, although customers have been able to order products for home delivery and click and collect.

Customers have been allowed to pick up click and collect orders from outside closed stores.

To minimise contact with fellow shoppers, staff have been bringing orders to customers’ cars.

A B&Q spokesperson told The Sun: “Due to the unprecedented number of visitors to the site today, we’ve had to take it down for a while.

“When we’re back, please shop for essential and emergency items only. Thank you for your patience.”

It comes after Boris Johnson warned this week that all “non-essential” shops are to shut – although hardware stores count as essential.

Other establishments that are allowed to stay open include supermarkets, pharmacies, newsagents, banks and Post Offices.

Vets, pet shops, petrol stations, launderettes, banks and hardware stores will also keep doors open for customers.

Before the coronavirus outbreak, B&Q stores were typically open 7am until 9pm.
