Virgin Media TV back up after going down for thousands of customers during Six Nations 2020 England rugby game
VIRGIN Media TV is back up and running after thousands of customers reported issues during the rugby Six Nations 2020 England versus Ireland game.
Outage tracker Downdetector showed more than 2,500 complaints from Virgin Media customers shortly before 4pm.
The majority of the outage reports came from the south of the UK including London, Southampton and Bournemouth.
Some users said they were having trouble with their internet, although Virgin Media told The Sun their broadband services are working as normal.
Frustrated customers took to Twitter earlier today to vent their fury over their lack of connectivity.
Tweeting a picture of the blurry rugby match on their TV, one user said: "So much for chilling this Sunday."
While someone else said: "I can't watch the rugby. Why is this happening?"
Another customer said: "My TV is pixelating badly on all channels.
"Have checked 0800 number previously suggested and told no issues in my area but judging from other tweets today there obviously is."
Someone else posted: "Live in South-East TV down. As others have said right in the middle of the Rugby. Unhappy household.
"Internet and landline phone also appear down."
Another user said: "What’s going on? My TV and internet are down. You won’t even answer on 150 to get status update just says we are busy?"
The service provider has also yet to say what caused the outage, but confirmed it’s network is now running again shortly before 9pm.
Meanwhile, the service update page on the Virgin Media website is still down "for essential changes".
A message on the page reads: "We’re doing some work on My Virgin Media at the moment as part of an upgrade to provide you with an even better service.
"We're sorry this part of the site isn’t available at the moment. Everything will be back to normal again soon, so please come back and try again shortly."
A Virgin Media spokesperson said earlier today: “We’re aware of an issue affecting broadcast TV services for some customers in Basildon, Croydon, Cosham, Pool and Southampton. Broadband services are unaffected.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and our teams are working promptly to resolve the problem.”
It's not just Virgin Media customers who have been struggling with connectivity issues lately.
MORE ON MONEY
Last week saw Co-op Banking customers locked out of their accounts following an outage.
TSB's website also went down on the same day leaving customers locked out of accounts.
It came just days after Nationwide suffered a payment glitch, causing some customers to be without money to pay bills and rent.
