WKD is bringing out a dark fruit flavour this spring

NOSTALGIC fans of WKD will soon be able to sip on a dark fruit flavour of the ready-mixed drink.

Dark fruit ciders have proved to be hits among Brits in recent years but this is the first vodka-based drink of the same flavour.

It should fit right in with its classic blue counterpart, which was popular during the late '90s as the cheap drink of the night.

The new drink comes with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of just 4 per cent, which is the same as WKD's other flavours including blue, mango and pink gin.

The low alcohol content is because the tipple is an alchopop that's been mixed with other ingredients, compared to straight vodka which typically contains around 40 per cent ABV.

The drink will be sold in 275ml and 700ml size bottles and is due to land on shop shelves in March this year.

WKD's owner, SHS Drinks, is yet to confirm prices, but we expect them to be similar to other flavours in the range.

These cost £3 for a 700ml bottle in Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco, while Morrisons charges from £3.28.

SHS Drinks told The Sun the drink will be available in a wide range of shops, including the UK's big supermarkets.

The launch comes after WKD launched a pink gin flavour in July last year, sending fans into a frenzy.

It was first only available in Londis stores, but later rolled out all the big four supermarkets.

Almost two years ago, WKD launched a new mango flavoured version.

The drinks maker has also rolled out pre-mixed WKD cocktails, and they're available in Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco from £1.60.

Be careful to drink too much of it though, as a mum-of-two ditched her 12 bottles-a-day WKD diet after becoming so fat she was forced to get married in an elastic beach dress.

From WKD to 20/20 - how many of these nostalgic tipples can you remember?
