KFC’s vegan burger is back on the menu TODAY
KFC's vegan burger is back on the menu with a new name today following months of teasing from the fast food chain.
The meat-free sandwich was previously called the Imposter Burger - but it'll now simply be called the Vegan Burger as KFC says it has "earned its place" as a permanent item on its menu.
The plant-based burger has landed in time for Veganuary, and includes all the flavours of the Colonel's Original Recipe.
KFC's vegan burger uses Quorn fillets that have been smothered in the Colonel’s Original Recipe mix of herbs and spices.
It's served with vegan mayonnaise, iceberg lettuce and is sandwiched between a soft glazed bun.
The release of KFC's vegan burger comes after the fast food chain sent fans into a frenzy with a new billboard featuring a “zero chicken” burger in Lewisham, London.
The billboard, which was first posted by on Instagram, teased the Vegan Burger along with the words: “11 herbs and spices. Zero chicken.”
KFC then added more fuel to the rumour mill by posting a crafty tweet revealing a new burger is set to be released on January 2.
Along with a silhouette of a mystery food and a question mark, KFC tweeted: “New burger who dis?”
The chicken chain previously confirmed the Imposter burger will be making a return following a successful trial in July.
At the time, KFC said the Imposter burger racked up sales about 500 per cent higher than a normal new chicken burger in just three days.
Customers had been calling for its return ever since, with the fast food giant responding to tweets confirming it’ll be coming back to the menu at some point.
The vegan burger is available now for £3.99, but doesn't come with any sides.
Innovation Director at KFC UK and Ireland, Ira Dubinsky, said: "The Colonel was all about welcoming everyone to his table – now vegans, flexitarians and our fried chicken fans can all enjoy the taste of our Original Recipe together.
"We've worked hard to perfect the flavour and make a Vegan Burger the Colonel would be proud of. It's the flavour of KFC, just with zero chicken."
