Whirlpool washing machine recall list – Hotpoint and Indesit model numbers to check now
WHIRLPOOL'S urgent recall has begun today, with the company urging half a million washing machines to be returned amid fears they could catch fire.
If you've bought Hotpoint, Indesit washing machines between 2014 and 2018, here's how to check if your appliance is at risk.
The potential design defect is with the door-locking system on washing machines that were sold in the UK between October 2014 and February 2018.
A full list of 42 different machines has been released by Whirlpool, detailing all the models that could be affected by the fault.
If your machine is on this list, the company is advising you to unplug it and stop using it immediately.
Those who chose to continue using their machines should only use cold water cycles of 20C or lower as this significantly reduces the risk, Whirlpool said.
However, this link is currently down at the time of writing - leaving customers unable to see if their appliance is affected.
Whirlpool has since tweeted out the full list for customers.
To check your appliance, you'll need to know the model number and serial number.
For Hotpoint washing machines, the model number should be found on the inside of the door.
Alternatively, customers can call Whirlpool's freephone hotline on 0800 316 1442.

What do I do if my machine is on the list?
The product recall has started today and so customers will have the choice of either a replacement washing machine, or a free in-home repair of their existing appliance.
Speaking before Christmas, Jeff Noel, vice president of Whirlpool, said: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and concern this may cause to our customers, particularly over the Christmas period, but we hope people will understand that we are taking action because people’s safety is our top priority."
