McDonald’s launches first-ever vegan meal today with dippers that taste of pesto
MCDONALD’S has launched its first-ever vegan meal today and it includes new veggie dippers that taste of tomato pesto.
The fast-food treats are plant-based alternatives to McNuggets and follow Greggs' unveiling of its vegan steak bake today and the KFC Imposter Burger.
The veggie dippers are made with red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas, all surrounded by crispy breadcrumbs.
They’re available in all McDonald's from today, January 2, just in time for "Veganuary" - and can be teamed with fries and any soft drink.
The veggie dippers also come as part of the first-ever vegan Happy Meal.
On their own, the veggie dippers cost £3.29 for four sticks – or £4.99 as part of an adult's meal.
If you want them as part of a Happy Meal, the price is £2.99.
However, McDonald’s prices do vary between restaurants so you might end up paying slightly more or less, depending on your location.
When The Sun asked about potential cross-contamination with the new vegan meal, McDonald's told us the veggie dippers are cooked in a way that keeps them separate from meat.
The fast food chain's chips are also "Vegan Approved" by The Vegetarian Society, so the fries included in the vegan meal are the same as their regular chips.
McDonald's has experimented with vegan options in other countries, with its McFalafel and McVegan burgers in Sweden, for example.
The McVegan burger is made from a soy-based patty and customers have previously begged McDonald's to bring it to the UK, while the McFalafel is made from chickpeas.

McDonald's has almost 1,300 branches in the UK.
The veggie dippers contain 80 calories each, which is actually almost double the 43 you'll find in a McNugget.
An adult man should consumer around 2,500 calories a day, while it's 2,000 for a woman, according to NHS guidelines.
