GAME brings back its Christmas Tinner – and now there’s a vegan version too
HOUSEHOLDS that don't have the time or inclination to cook Christmas dinner can now get a three-course version in a TIN - and there's a vegan version too.
The "Christmas Tinner" was invented by masterminds at tech retailer GAME in 2013 so gamers could continue playing for as long as possible without having to stop and cook a meal.
But the 400g tins are back for 2019 costing £1.99.
If you can stomach it, the meat version has nine layers with the top layer your breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, followed by two mushed up mince pies - because everyone needs an 11am snack.
Then there's the main event; turkey and potatoes, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, and either Brussels sprout with stuffing or broccoli with stuffing, plus roast carrots and parsnips.
Last but not least, is the bottom layer of Christmas pudding for dessert.
And this year, GAME has launched vegan and vegetarian versions too for the first time - both of which contain a whopping 12 layers.
The vegan version begins, somewhat bizarrely, with vegan chocolate cake and vegan custard.
Next you get into the main course of red cabbage, parsnips and carrots, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts and broccoli, peppery vegan pigs in blankets, vegan beef wellington, vegan cheese, olives and grapes, and scrambled tofu and facon (fake bacon).
The veggie version, meanwhile, sees all three courses lumped in all over the place.
It begins with a nut roast followed by a mushroom wellington, then there's sprouts, Toblerone (yes, we know!), roast parsnips and carrots, halloumi pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese, yule log, veggie gravy, gingerbread pancakes, cranberry sauce, and potatoes.
If the tins sound appealing, you'll have to pop down to your nearest GAME store as the tins are currently - just give your store a call beforehand to check availability.

Before you scoff the lot, bear in mind the meat tin contains around 2,200 calories, the veggie one around 1,800 calories, and the vegan one around 1,500 calories.
The average man should only consumer around 2,500 calories, while it's 2,000 for a woman, according to NHS guidelines.
We couldn't find any other major online retailers selling tins of Christmas dinner, although has an all day breakfast in a 395g tin for £1.60 - it contains 463 calories.
A GAME spokesperson said: "The original Christmas Tinner has been so popular with gamers over the last several years that this year we've been inundated with requests for a vegan or vegetarian alternative.
"There are now 3.5million vegans in the UK and we have had to respond to the shift in consumer behaviour habits and demand and make sure our products are appealing to all."
