Get those special Christmas treats for the kids and Santa for less — plus win £50,000 in our raffle

THE gifts may all be present and correct but that doesn’t mean Christmas spending on your kids is over.

According to a GoCompare survey, 57 per cent of us will overspend on family this year but I’ve found ways to make savings on those fun little extras that can really add up.

PLATE UP: Christmas Eve plates have become a must-have over the past few years. B&M has spaces for Santa’s mince pie and drink, as well as Rudolph’s carrot. They’re £1, compared to Next’s £4 option.

SAVE: £3

SACK OF SAVINGS: A personalised Santa Sack costs £8.99 at Home Bargains but if you shop at , you can get a £3.09 large sack with space to write a name. For a professional finish, pick up Tulip’s fabric paint, £2, from Hobbycraft.

SAVE: at least £5.90 on the sack

LITTLE HELPER: Kids love Elf On The Shelf. But the original doll will cost you £16.99. Luckily, there are plenty of copycats out there.

Ryman’s £2.99 Christmas Elf looks almost exactly the same, as does The Works’ Vinyl Faced Elf Toy, £4.

SAVE: £14 on an elf toy

SNAP HAPPY: Elf “surveillance cameras” are great for getting kids to behave.

They are mock CCTVs designed to look as though they have been placed in your house by elves, who will report any bad behaviour to Santa. The Range’s £2.99 version is cheap, but if you do not want to spend money on a novelty item you could simply tell your little ones your fire alarm is filming them.

SAVE: £2.99 on a dummy camera

GOOD SIGN: I have found “Santa Stop Here” signs for less than £2 online. But make sure you shop around before parting with your cash.

Once you have added on the price of delivery, you will be better off getting The Range’s £3.49 option. You could save more than £3.

SAVE: Approx £3 on a “Santa Stop Here” sign
