ALDI customers could get 50 per cent off the weekly food shop if they take advantage of the secret 'bargain hour' at their local store.
The discounter has special red stickers which it uses to offer up to half price off items approaching their expiry date.
The specific timings of special discount hours depends on the rules at your local, so you'll need to get familiar with the daily routine.
The thing to look out for is opening times, as the bargains usually appear for the first hour of the day.
That means in the week you might need to get there for as early as 8am to find the best deals.
Aldi's usually open later on Sundays, which means you may get a lie in till 10am before your bargain hunting.
Here's how to cut the cost of your grocery shop
MONEY.CO.UK has shared some top tips with us to help you keep your supermarket spend down to a minimum.
- Write yourself a list - Only buy items that you need. If it isn't on your list, don't put it in the trolley
- Create a budget - Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
- Never shop hungry - You are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
- Don't buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit - The extra they'll charge for chopping can be eye watering
- Use social media - Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
- Be disloyal - You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
- Check the small print - It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
- Use your loyalty cards - Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently - work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
One shopper, Leslie Horton, snapped a picture of her trolley full of meat, ready meals and vegetables and posted it in the Facebook Group Latest Deals.
Another shopper added: "8am every morning at Aldi, I grab loads for half price or less! Never had an issue with any of it, it's all been delicious."A third said: "Aldi starts reducing (50 per cent) their items after 8am.
Speaking about the reduction hour, a spokesperson for Aldi told the Manchester Evening News: "All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates."
Discounted items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis so you'll need to be one of the first through the doors to get lucky.
