Dangerous toys are being flogged to Brits on Amazon and eBay in lead up to Christmas
DANGEROUS toys are being sold on Amazon and eBay ahead of Christmas.
Listings for 17 potentially harmful gifts, such as a Transformers helmet which can damage hearing, were found on the sites.
Others include swimming rings, junior tool sets, a hand drum and a remote control car.
They are rated hazardous under EU rules owing to levels of toxic chemicals which could damage organs or detachable parts which may cause choking.
Which?, the consumer group that pinpointed the toys, called for online marketplaces to face tougher rules.
A spokesman said: “The next government must make marketplaces legally responsible for preventing unsafe products from being sold.
"[They must] establish clearer requirements for taking down dangerous products and ensure better enforcement is in place.”
eBay, which had 12 of the listings, said it warned, restricted, suspended or banned sellers which “breach our policies or the law”.
