JOHN Lewis has created a Snapchat filter that turns you into the star of this year's Christmas campaign Excitable Edgar.

The heart-warming advert tells the tale of a dragon who loves Christmas - but almost ruins it because he can't control his fiery breath.

With the help of his friend Ava he finds a way to utilise his powers to provide a bit of Christmas magic - and Edgar gets accepted by the rest of the town folk.

Fans of the ad can turn themselves into the excitable dragon by going to Snapchat to access the filter.

The retailer - which has made its advert Waitrose for the first time - has also created an emoji on Twitter.

You can use the emoji by tweeting the hashtag #ExcitableEdgar.

It's not the first time that John Lewis has created a filter.

In 2017, the retailer worked with Facebook to create a filter that turned fans into Moz the Monster.

It is the 13th John Lewis advert Christmas ad, last year's advert The Boy and the Piano saw the life and career of musical legend Elton John.

It is a return to John Lewis featuring an adorable animated animal or figure, as previously it has created Moz the Monster, Buster the Boxer and Monty the Penguin.

The first-ever John Lewis Christmas advert was released in 2007 and was called "shadow".

Last year we ranked and rated all 12 John Lewis adverts.
