Frankie & Benny’s is giving away FREE meatballs this weekend – and says they taste better than Ikea ones

FRANKIE & Benny’s has thrown down the gauntlet to Ikea by offering its own meatballs to customers for FREE if they can produce a receipt from the flat-pack furniture giant this weekend.

Swedish meatballs have become a central part of the Ikea experience and the store sells 2million of them around the world every day.

But Frankie & Benny’s claims its meatballs are better - and is willing to give them away for nothing to prove it.

The restaurant will serve customers at 18 restaurants free Meatballs Al Forno or the new Vegan Plantballs Italiano on October 18, 19 and 20 - that's this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

But you can only claim the free dish if you can prove you have been shopping at a nearby Ikea over the weekend.

Simply bring your receipt to the nearest Frankie & Benny's and it'll give you your meatballs.

Which restaurants are taking part?

HERE'S where you can get your free meatballs:

  • Ashton Moss
  • Bristol Cabot Circus
  • Cardiff Dunleavy Drive
  • Croydon
  • Exeter
  • Gateshead Metrocentre
  • Glasgow Braehead
  • Greenwich Bugsby Way
  • Lakeside
  • Leeds Centre 27
  • Milton Keynes Kingston
  • Milton Keynes Xscape
  • Nottingham Giltbrook
  • Sheffield Centertainment
  • Southampton
  • Straiton
  • Warrington
  • Wembley

There no minimum spend but it is limited to participating restaurants only - see the box above for the list of stores taking part.

It is also one portion per person, up to a maximum of four portions for each receipt.

Frankie & Benny’s will also have meatball sampling teams near Ikea stores in Croydon, Southampton, and Leeds on October 18, 19 and 20 to give shoppers a taste of the meatballs they can enjoy.

The Al Forno recipe features lemon and herb pork meatballs with a tomato and chilli sauce, topped with mozzarella and baked in the oven, served with ciabatta bread.

And the new Vegan Plantballs Italiano are made with pulled oats, broad beans and peas, served in a spicy tomato sauce with a vegan mozzarella alternative and rocket.

Elise Ash, brand director at Frankie & Benny's, said: “We felt exhausted shoppers could do with a hearty Italian-American inspired dish before they head home for some DIY and hopefully the free meatballs offer will save them dishing out even more money.

“It's all a bit of light-hearted fun and we can't wait for the nation to taste the new recipe."

It is not the first time that Frankie & Benny's has offered customers a free dinner: last month it gave a free 10-inch pepperoni pizza worth £9.99 for people who bought a pint of Coke or Budweiser.

It also did a deal where you got 50 per cent off your meal if you shared a picture of it on Instagram.
