FESTIVE FEAST

Co-op’s Christmas food 2019 includes cauliflower cheese crisps and bubble and squeak bites

CAULIFLOWER cheese crisps and bubble and squeak bites are just some of the delights Co-op shoppers have to look forward to this Christmas.

The supermarket has revealed its festive feast line-up which includes snacks, starters, mains and puddings - and better yet, prices start at £1.70.

It might only be October but the retailer is late to the festive mark compared to others, such as Marks & Spencer and Asda.

Co-op only offer a home delivery service for online orders for a handful of stores in London when you spend £15, which will set you back £5.

Alternatively, you can get your shopping delivered to your home for free if you spend £25 or more in store. Here's where you can .

Some of the nibbles are available to buy from now, while you'll need to wait until November and December to get your hands on others.

"We've focused our efforts on classic festive favourites, innovative flavour combinations and twists on traditional treats, such as our new irresistible winter’s eve puddings," said Breige Donaghy, director of food at Co-op.

"This year we’ve also made sure there’s plenty on offer for our vegan and free-from customers, making sure there’s something delicious for everyone."

Here are a few of our top picks:

Cauliflower cheese crisps - £1.70

The latest flavour of crisps joins the posh hand cooked range, and even though they taste like baked cauliflower dripping in melted cheddar, the snacks are actually made from potato.

We can't find any other retailer stocking this festive flavour, so they might just be the only ones. You can already pick these up in stores now.

Bubble and squeak bites - £3

These bubble and squeak bites are a perfect starter or ideal for the anti-pasti board.

They're made from shredded potato, Brussels sprouts, savoy cabbage and butternut squash crush, which is seasoned with garam masala coated in breadcrumbs with a spiced clementine dip.

They cost £3 for a 200g box or they're on offer for two for £5.

Curly pig in blanket - £4

The Co-op's curly pig in blanket features a pork and caramelised onion sausage wrapped in smoked streaky bacon, sprinkled with rosemary.

It measures in at 3ft - or almost 95cm - long but unfortunately it's nothing on Aldi's 6ft sausage, which is also £1 less at £2.99.

Three cheese fondue sharing bread - £4

The tear and share bread is shaped like a wreath and is finished with olive oil and parsley.

But it's the gooey melted cheese centre that we're more interested in, made with West Country mature cheddar, Belton red Leicester, mozzarella and Italian white wine.

It's a good deal for £4, considering a cheese fondue set costs £3.65 from Waitrose and that doesn't include the bread.

Ham hock and cranberry Bon Bons - £3

Mix things up with your meat a little this Christmas with the Co-op's ham hock and cranberry Bon Bons.

Inside, there's shredded British ham hock and sausage meat mixed with cranberry sauce, coated in breadcrumbs.

Each pack comes with eight nibbles. We couldn't find anyone else selling these so you'll need to wait until November before you'll find them on shelves at the Co-op.

They cost £3 for a pack or they're on offer for two for £5.

Irresistible winter's eve puddings - £2

Forget mince pies, these alternative festive puds are made from baked apple in buttery pastry tarts.

You'll also be able to taste the sultanas, blend of seasonal spices that's topped with custard and Madagascan vanilla sponge with a sprinkle of golden stars.

Each pack contains four puddings and should hit shelves in December.

M&S festive menu includes a £15 gold clementine gin liqueur and a Christmas Colin the Caterpillar.
