Mumsnet user rages after her 14-year-old daughter is banned from pulling up tights in front of male teachers at school
Parents have waded into the debate - and not everyone agrees
A MUM has sparked a debate after her daughter was apparently told not to “pull up” her tights in front of male teachers.
The mum, who has a 14-year-old daughter, took to parenting forum to ask others what they thought about the proposed ruling.
She explained: “Dd (darling daughter) 14 had her first assembly of the year this morning, and head mistress/principle has a list of new rules, one including female students are banned from pulling up/ adjusting their 60 denier tights in front of male teachers as she feels this is inappropriate and it must be done in private in bathrooms.
“Surely this is crazy?”
Needless to say, other parents were quick to wade into the discussion – with many saying that they’d be “livid” if their kids were told the same.
One user wrote: “Is she saying girls are wrong to do this? If I were a male teacher I would be offended.”
Another added: “What? I'd be livid if this was announced in assembly - are the boys being given instructions not to adjust their clothes too??”
Some else said: “I'm 41 and never done pulling up my bloody tights. Would she prefer they fall down?
“Why only in front of male teachers?”
And another mum thought the whole thing was preposterous.
She said: “Is she joking...?
“God I wouldn't even notice I was doing it when I was at school! And what if I they have cheap tights like a lot of teenage girls do? They'll be in the bloody bathrooms every five minutes!
“If I were your daughter I would seriously ask to go to the loo every five minutes to prove a point...”
Meanwhile, others felt that tights shouldn’t be pulled up in front of anyone – but sympathised with male teachers being singled out.

One such user commented: “I agree with her that pulling up tights is something to be done in private spaces. As should all adjustment of underwear by all sexes.
“So rule is fair enough, but it is odd that she singled out doing it in front of male teachers.”
Someone else agreed: “Rule would be fair enough if it was to not adjust underwear and tights in public.
“It's the female student/male teacher thing that is totally wrong.
“I would write in and complain, the rule should be changed so as not to be sexist.
“It insults teenage girls and male teachers simultaneously.”
What do you think?
Earlier this year, another Mumsnet user sparked a debate when she was given a wedding invite that said “adults only” and another user was left angry that her new husband’s mother invited herself on their honeymoon.
