From huge nappies to giant pink dummies, these pictures give a surreal insight into the world of adult babies

A SELECTION of photos gives an insight into the life of adult babies.
Portrait photographer Polly Borland decided to snap the photos to explore the surreal world of adult babies.
Her aim was to compassionately portray how the men in the snaps had a raw vulnerability and desire for comfort and care.
In many of the snaps, the “infantalists” (adults who role play as babies and are cared for in the same way) can be seen dressed in nappies and nursing dummies.
The photos, which are currently on display at the MIER gallery in California, aim to show “the naked, adult male body” merged with the “innocence and vulnerability of an infant.”
Many of the men featured work normal jobs in their day to day lives, often functioning in society as truck drivers, accountants, and teachers.
Some of the men suffered as children and were left obsessed with the warmth and care experienced by other infants and toddlers.
They now dress up in adult-sized baby clothes, powder their own bottoms, and do everything babies do.
The photos were originally shot for a body of work curated by Nick Cave in 1999, which then became the subject of a 2000 book, The Babies.
Susan Sontag, who wrote a forward for the book, said of the men: “They invite our identification...daring us to admit that we too can imagine such feelings, even if we are astonished that some people actually go to the trouble, and assume the shame, of acting them out.”
