This summer’s must-have BBQ food is dividing opinion… but would you eat a ‘swineapple’?
Some amateur BBQ chefs have cooked up a bit of online controversy with a culinary creation which is splitting people straight down the middle
SUMMER is upon us - no matter what the weather may lead you to believe.
Provided the sun manages to make an appearance, August should be prime time to wheel out the BBQ and start grilling.
However, some amateur BBQ chefs have cooked up a bit of online controversy with a culinary creation which is splitting people straight down the middle.
Called the swineapple, this summer's must-try food brings together pork and pineapples for a meaty twist on the tropical fruit.
And the swineapple does exactly what it says on the tin - it's essentially a whole pineapple stuffed with pork, wrapped up in bacon and grilled.
Food lovers on Instagram have taken to sharing their own swineapple creations, and the photos will either leave you licking your lips or feeling seriously unwell.
One snap shows yellow pineapple flesh peeking out from a lattice of crispy bacon, with a second shot showing the middle of the fruit stuffed with pork loin.
A similar shot shows a swineapple stuffed to the brim with pork tenderloin, inside a crispy bacon-covered shell.
However, pineapple on pizza is controversial enough, so this latest marriage of sweet and savoury flavours has divided opinion straight down the middle.
Some reckon that nothing sounds sweeter than a porky pineapple, but others are completely repulsed by the idea.
BBQ lovers have also taken to sharing recipes on Imgur, where one user said their meaty creation took a whopping five hours of oven roasting before the bacon was suitably crispy.
One commenter joked: "I would honestly marry this and try to have babies with it", while another added: "I know what I'm doing this weekend".

However, not everyone was so keen on the idea, with one Twitter user saying: "Whoever came up with this has a special place in hell".
Another asked: "What is it with people putting pineapple in the weirdest of places?", while a third critic added: "Um... no thanks".
The DIY dish is believed to have first emerged online back in 2015, when a Texan foodie shared his snap of a swineapple on Facebook.
Of course, this isn't the first viral food craze to divide opinion.
Earlier this year, we told how "cloud eggs" were taking the internet by storm, as part of an all new hipster food trend.
However, it's since started to become clear that British diners have started distancing themselves from hipster food trends... in favour of meals which actually taste nice.
