Everyone knows that when you're not paying top whack you can't expect exceptional quality but you do expect your high street purchases to last a little while at least.

I put eight different stores to the test to see whose low-cost rings would turn fingers green the quickest.

With adornments from Topshop, ASOS, Claire's, Accessoize, New Look, River Island, H&M and Primark all the major retailers were covered.

I wore a ring (or rings) from each on each finger over the course of five days to see how they lasted with the normal wear and tear of life.

I washed my hands, applied moisturiser, showered and even slept in them in a bid to test out which has the best staying power.

After an uncomfortable five days - sometimes you have to suffer for science - the results are in...

Bottom of the league - ASOS

We also investigated just how much bra measurements vary on the high street and our model was told she was a 36DDD in Victoria’s Secret but a 30HH in Bravissimo.

We sent our Sun girl into the streets in a bikini to see whether Nando’s, McDonald’s and Barclays bank would serve her in the hot weather… here’s how she got on.
