THE REASON why a fan yelled "Mary loves Dick" at Derek Acorah as he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house last night has been revealed.
As the professional psychic spoke to Emma Willis before making his way in to the famous compound, there was a rude jeer from the crowd.
Derek turned to the heckler and nodded "absolutely" before continuing to speak to the host.
The origin of the jeer dates back to when Derek, 67, was the star of Living TV's Most Haunted.
One ghost-hunting expedition in 2006 saw the perma-tanned spiritualist reel off some very saucy phrases after being possessed by a female spirit named Mary.
One moment Derek was speaking to host Yvette Fielding, when suddenly he started snorting, a sign that someone had entered him.
Yvette queried: "What is it Derek? Are you alright?"
Derek replied: "Mary loves Dick! Mary loves Dick! Mary loves Dick! Richard!"

After grunting and breathing heavily, he continued: "Don't say those things about him."
Moments later the spirit left Derek's body, and his eyes opened.

Derek then called upon his spirit guide Sam to help him answer some more questions about who or what just entered him.

He asks out loud: "She covered him up. How did she cover him up, Sam?" before establishing that Mary and her friend Betty had somehow protected their dear friend Dick.
Last night people at home were left asking why someone would shout something so rude to kindhearted Derek - but those that knew, found it hilarious.
: "'MARY LOVES DICK!!' Has to be the greatest line ever muttered on TV."
