Aldi’s £10 gin has been ranked one of the best in the world… beating one which costs FOUR TIMES as much
A £10 GIN from Aldi has been voted one of the best in the world at a prestigious spirits competition, beating off competition from pricier rivals.
The Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin won the gold medal in the dry gin sub-category at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The £9.97 bottle was ranked higher than silver medal winner Foxhole London Dry Gin, which costs nearly four times the price at £39.95.
The Aldi gin also beat the likes of Beefeater London Dry Gin, M&S London Dry Gin and Bleu d'Argent London Dry Gin.
The discount supermarket chain also won the Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range Of The Year at the competition and walked away with 20 medals in total.
Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi said: “Receiving medals for our spirits is a fantastic achievement and it is great to see our spirits range being praised so highly by experts.
“Being awarded a title such as ‘Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year’ is something that not only reflects the quality of our products but also the hard work that our UK based buying team put into drinks retailing every single day.”
The awards come at a time when gin drinking in the UK is on the rise – with sales last year up 16 per cent as Brits guzzled 40 million bottles.

In fact, gin has become so popular again that it has been added to the basket of goods that are used to calculate inflation.
The Office for National Statistics said earlier this year that it was returning to basket after being ditched 13 years ago after it went out of favour.
