TILL DEBT DO US PART

Mumsnet users slam millionaire ‘bridezilla’ who’s insisting her friends buy their own bridesmaid dresses and fizz for her wedding day

Her bridesmaid, who is in debt, has also been asked to fork out £100 for her wedding day hair and make-up

A MILLIONAIRE bride-to-be has been slammed after insisting her pals pay for their own bridesmaid dresses - despite one of them being in "chronic debt".

The cheeky bride also asked the bridesmaid to fork out for her wedding day hair and make-up, accommodation and travel costs, SIX BOTTLES of champagne and hen do dinner.

, who is friends with both ladies, explained the bride owns a £1.5 million house - with no mortgage - and has "best part of a mil in cash in the bank";.

Her bridesmaid, on the other hand, is "not wealthy" and lives "in chronic debt" - and ended up not attending the hen do because she couldn't afford to spend £100.

Lanouvelleheloise added: "(The bride) is ready to throw (her bridesmaid) under a bus because of the last point - she is talking about their friendship being over!

"I feel this is unreasonable as I suspect (the bridesmaid) actually paid far more than she could reasonably afford given her circumstances.

"(The bride) maintains that the reception cost £350/head to her, so everyone else owes her one on all the other stuff."

Most Mumsnet users were shocked - agreeing that the bridesmaid should pay for her own travel costs and the hen do, but that everything else was above and beyond.

What the bridesmaid was asked to pay for:

  • Bridesmaid dress and accessories: cost unknown
  • Make-up and hair on the wedding day: £100
  • Travel costs and accomodation: cost unknown
  • Champagne: six bottles bought, costing several hundred pounds
  • Present: at least £50
  • Hen do dinner: £100

1bighappyfamily, meanwhile, labelled the woman a "brideszilla".

DirtyChaiLatte said: "Etiquette aside, considering how much difference in income/wealth/inconvenience between the two women, I think the bride should pay.

"If she's digging in her heels and refusing to understand how the cost implications could affect your friend, then I don't think she's a very nice person."

NeedsAsockamnesty agreed, adding: "I think if you are not prepared to cover the costs of having a bridesmaid then you shouldn't have one."

While DonutCone wrote: "There is no way on earth the bridesmaid should pay for the dress or the hair and make-up.

";There is no one tighter than the bride who expects a bridesmaid to pay for her own dress.

"There is nothing worse that the bulls*** 'oh but you can pick something to wear again' as if you're doing them a favour.

"They wouldn't have needed a dress at all if they weren't your bridesmaid so you are just passing your cost onto them."

On the issue of who should fork out for bridal party fizz, Clarabell33 said: "Bride!! Good grief. Perhaps she should bring her own teabags too!"

And ARumWithAView reasoned: "If she wants everyone to contribute, she can ask them to bring a bottle of fizz, poshness not a prerequisite.

"But you don't order a crate of Bollinger and ask everyone else to pay for it."

However, Liska was a bit more sympathetic, writing: "A bride who is that wealthy may well just not understand how tight budget is for bridesmaid."

However, this bridezilla has nothing on bride-to-be Caroline - who demanded her bridesmaids fork out for her £6,200 wedding dress.

While this woman is insisting her bridesmaids lose weight and have COSMETIC SURGERY ahead of her big day.
