The Sun’s Who Cares Wins awards terms and conditions

Open to United Kingdom residents aged 18 or over only, except employees of the Promoter, News Corp UK & Ireland Limited, and their associated, affiliated or subsidiary companies, their families, agents or any other person(s) connected with the competition, including third party promotional partners.

The competition closes at 11:59 PM on September 1 2017 (the “Closing Date”). Any entries received after the Closing Date will be void.

One entry per person. Bulk, automatically generated or third party entries are void.

To enter you must complete the competition entry form at mcb777.site/whocareswins and submit up to 500 words on why you or someone you know deserves to win before the Closing Date.

One nomination per category per person.

Please ensure you have the consent of the person you are nominating.

Entries must be the original work of the author and not previously published.

They must not exceed 500 words.

Entries which are or appear to be plagiarised will be disqualified.

Entries (including but not limited to text and photographs) for this competition must not contain any content that is defamatory, libellous, racist, homophobic, derogatory, pornographic, obscene, sexist, illegal, and/or otherwise inappropriate.

The winner in each category will be the nominated person who, in the opinion of the judges, is demonstrated to be the deserving winner of that category.

There will be at least 1 independent judge on the judging panel.

There will be one award winner in each category. One award per winner.

Categories are as follows:

Best Midwife

This award is for an NHS midwife who provided great care for a woman or her baby. Tell us your amazing birth stories or nominate someone for their on-going hard work.

Best Doctor

This award is for any NHS doctor - who could be a General Practitioner, a hospital doctor or hospital consultant. Tell us why the person deserves to win.

Best Nurse

This award is for any NHS nurse in any field.

Ultimate Lifesaver (eg emergency rescue or operation)

This category is for a person or team who have performed an emergency rescue or an operation or similar. Tell us your ‘999’ stories and also your stories about remarkable operations or lifesaving situations. You might want to nominate a paramedic or an ambulance worker or a surgeon.

Ground-breaking pioneer or discovery

This category is to honour scientists and researchers who have contributed to medical science.
Best volunteer

This award will go to the unsung unpaid heroes of health. Do you know a friend or a person who gives up their time to volunteer at a health charity, hospital, hospice or similar?

Best charity

This is a chance to nominate a health charity who has helped you or a loved one.

Special recognition

This category is to cover anyone working in the health field who does not fit into any of the above categories.

Perhaps there is team of people, a manager, receptionist, therapist, physio or nutritionist you want to honour.

There will be a £100 prize payable by BACS for each person who successfully nominates a winner to any of the above categories.

One prize per successful winner nomination.

Winners will be chosen by the judging panel, from a shortlist produced by the research team.

Nominees will be contacted and their permission sought prior to any published announcements regarding the nominees.

The team consider every public nomination received as well as conducting a full research process, which includes inviting nominations from searching news stories in print archives, on TV and online.
The research team and/or judging panel may consider your nomination in a different category if the research team or judges decide it is appropriate.

The judging panel will choose who they feel are the most deserving winners in each category, regardless of the number of nominations received.

The winners will be notified by email or phone or using the other contact details provided by the winner or their nominee within 30 days after the Closing Date.

All reasonable endeavours will be made to contact the winners during the specified time.

If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, the Promoter reserves the right to re-draw another winner from the valid/correct entries that were received during the Competition Period.

If the winner has not consented to being entered into the competition and refuses any part of the prize the Promoter reserves the right to re-draw another winner from the valid/correct entries that were received during the Competition Period

Winners, and their respective nominees, plus one guest each will be invited to a presentation lunch at the News UK office on October 11 2017.

News UK will reimburse reasonable travel and accommodation costs for each person invited to the presentation lunch.
The prize is non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives to the prize in whole or in part.

The Promoter reserves the right, at its absolute discretion, to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in the event that circumstances beyond its control mean that the Prize as described cannot be provided.

The winners and the person who nominated them will be required to participate in reasonable publicity relating to this competition.

The promoter of this competition is News Group Newspapers Ltd (the Promoter).

These terms and conditions apply to all competitions (unless and to the extent that) the competition states otherwise.

The winner is responsible for ensuring they are able to accept the prize as set out and in accordance with these terms and conditions, in the event they are unable to do so then the Promoter reserves the right to redraw the prize.

Entrants should be aware that they may be subject to data charges depending on their own individual arrangements for Internet access if entry is online or by email.

An eligible entrant must be an individual, must enter on their own behalf, and must submit an entry in the form requested by the Promoter under this promotion including their name, address and e-mail address.

By entering, all eligible entrants agree to abide by each and all these terms and conditions.

Misrepresentative or fraudulent entries will invalidate an entry.

Where a competition involves a voting process: offering or receiving any incentive for voting is not permitted and will invalidate the vote, and may disqualify the recipient of the vote.

The Promoter reserves the right, with or without cause, to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these terms and conditions.

The Promoter reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions. Any amendments will be published on the Promoter’s website (the Website).

The Promoter reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) other than the winning entry and publication does not necessarily mean the entrant has won a prize.

Entrants will retain copyright in their submitted entries, however, by entering, all entrants licence the Promoter a worldwide royalty-free perpetual licence to edit, publish and use each entry in any and all media (including print and online) for publicity and news purposes.

The Promoter reserves the right to publish entries (including parts of entries) although publication does not necessarily mean the entrant has won a prize.

There is no cash or other alternative to the prize stated and the prize is not transferable and no part or parts of the prize may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions.

Winners may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their prize.

The Promoter's decision is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into.

The Promoter will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections that may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant's ability to participate in the competition.

Other than death or personal injury arising from the acts or omissions of the Promoter or its employees, the Promoter will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of the winner’s (or their guest’s) enjoyment of the prize.

By entering, any subsequent prize winners agree to allow the free use of their names, photographs and general locations for publicity and news purposes during this and future promotions by the Promoter or any associated or subsidiary company of News Corp UK & Ireland Limited.

Uses of personal data received by the Promoter in the course of the promotion are subject to the privacy policy found on the Website.

Winners' names may be published on the Website.

Completion and submission of a registration slip or e-mail will be deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.

The Promoter reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or supersede the competition (including altering prizes) if, in our sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified.

The Promoter reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.

In the event of a printing or other error resulting in there being more winners than prizes for the competition, the Promoter reserves the right at any time to allocate the available prize(s) through a further draw or to divide the prize(s) or the value of the prize(s) between the winners of the competition.
