What is The Loch?
The Loch is the brand new six-part ITV drama set in the heart of a small Scottish community that has had viewers gripped from the start.
Starring The Missing’s Laura Fraser and Downton Abbey‘s Siobhan Finneran, the Loch Ness will once again be plagued by mystery.
It started on June 11 and continues for the final TONIGHT (Sunday July 16) at 9pm on ITV.
Where is The Loch filmed?
Loch Ness
This famous body of water has long been shrouded in mystery and the unknown.
It therefore was the perfect choice for the setting of a murder scene, with the action starting after a body is hidden beneath the surface of the loch.
The residents of the local town of Lochnefoy are blissfully unaware of its presence, just as they have no idea that they have a ruthless killer in their midst.
Executive producer Tim Haines said: “Set around the shores of Loch Ness the series contrasts the dark deeds of humans with the beauty of the setting.”
Fort Augustus
The beautiful Fort Augustus is the location for the fictional town of Lochnefoy whilst the wild countryside of the series is picked from across the Highlands.
The quaint Scottish hamlet is nestled on the most southern tip of Loch Ness offering spectacular views over the stunning scenery.
Producer Alan J Wands oversaw a Scottish team that worked over the summer of 2016 between the Highlands and studios just outside Glasgow.
Carn Mohr Mountain
The dramatic mountain looms over the action, as the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of the natural wonder.
This is followed by an isolated human heart being found on the loch shore and is said to “shatter the town’s normality and start the nightmare.”
Càrn Mòr Dearg is the eighth-highest mountain in Scotland and is located close to the town of Fort William.
Fort William
Fort William is a town in the western Scottish Highlands, which is known as a gateway to Ben Nevis, and chosen for the filming backdrop.
It is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants.
Tim Haines said: “From a production point of view, we were determined to set as much as possible in the Highlands even though it was tough to find everything we needed round the Loch itself.”
Glen Coe
With deep valley and towering mountains, there is no denying Glen Coe’s stunning beauty.
It is no surprise that it was chosen by producers for scenes for the new six-part murder mystery drama.
Siobhan Finneran, who plays the role of Lauren Quigley, said: “The weather was actually more challenging in July than it was in September.
“And then, of course, in September we had these glorious sunshine filled days when we were usually in the studio.
“But they’re very used to it up there, as am I coming from the north of England. Rain, snow, a bit of sunshine and hail all in the space of a couple of hours.”
What is the storyline of The Loch?
The search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death for local detective Annie Redford who is trying to cope with her first murder case.
